About Fiona
Brooklyn Based Yoga Instructor
Fiona is a 500-hour internationally certified Yoga Teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance.
She completed her 200-hour Vinyasa flow training in Rishikesh, India with Tribe Yoga in 2010 and her 300-hour Ashtanga training in Goa, India with Kranti Yoga in 2015. She also studied 100 hours of Vinyasa teacher training in the Shiva Rea tradition in 2008 at Studio Serenity in Washington, DC.
Fiona teaches Vinyasa classes informed by Ashtanga principles of alignment, but with plenty of room for variety and modification. She believes that yoga is for everyone: every age, every body type, and every level of physical fitness. Her aim is to make practice safe, relaxed, enjoyable, and rewarding. Students should feel good both inside and out after class.
Fiona has taught students of all levels in Brooklyn, NY; Washington, DC; Goa, India; San Francisco, CA; and at the Canadian and British Embassies in Kabul, Afghanistan. She’s enjoyed studying and practicing yoga under experienced teachers in India, Nepal, Thailand, Myanmar, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, France, Italy, and the United States.
Fiona is an international affairs professional who has worked in New York, Washington DC, Paris, Kabul, Baghdad, Abu Dhabi, and Baku.
I enjoy teaching individuals and classes of all ages, levels of experience, and physical fitness.
Some of my areas of speciality:
Along with good body awareness, athletes sometimes have injury, muscle memory and tightness, and muscle imbalance. As a former college athlete, I relate easily to the body type, physical wear and tear, and mindset. I’ve enjoyed introducing yoga to a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player, and one of New Zealand’s former national kick boxing champions among others.
I love teaching beginners! Nothing beats sharing yoga with newcomers. I make sure class is welcoming and fun. I’ve taught classes of mixed levels, including many first-time yogis. Every class provides strong fundamentals that keep bodies safe, breathing steady, and minds relaxed.
While many people over 40 are as fit as ever, some of us are working with injuries or joint issues. I’m experienced in modifying poses to accommodate a variety of physical issues, and to adjusting class so that each student can work at their own edge and get the most out of their practice. A full and fun yoga practice is available to everyone.
I took my first yoga class for the sole purpose of injury prevention for my gym workouts. 20 years later I’m a 500-hour certified teacher who continues to marvel at yoga’s benefits. If you’d like try to yoga, but aren’t sure ‘breathing through your third eye’ is for you, I’m your teacher.
